Correct Selection of Desi Seeds

Correct Selection of Desi Seeds (Open-pollinated, Improved and Mixed Varieties) in Natural Farming
In my opinion, the Green Revolution started in 1968. After that, Hybrid and GM varieties came into farming. These varieties cannot grow without Chemical Fertilizers and Pesticides. Therefore, farmers are forced to make strong input plans.
Once a farmer buys hybrid seeds, he must use fertilizers and sprays. Only then some yield is obtained. Without these inputs, production fails. Because of this system, farmers fall into debt and many commit suicide.
Hybrid varieties are highly susceptible to pests and diseases. These problems cannot be controlled without spraying chemicals. Due to high expenses on seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, farming becomes uneconomical.
Moreover, produce from hybrid varieties:
Has poor taste
Has low quality
Lacks nutritional value
Does not provide proper nutrients
Because of this, health problems are increasing.
Hybrid varieties are not developed in harmony with nature, so the cost is high but yield is unstable. Fruits and vegetables are large in size,
but:
Tasteless
Spoil quickly (short shelf life)
Not suitable for long-distance transport
Hence, hybrid varieties are harmful.
I have proved that:
In one year, yield may be 20 quintals per acre
In the next year, yield may fall to 2 quintals per acre
Due to this, nature is being harmed, and nature is reacting every year. Because of the destruction of biodiversity, people are eating anything at any time, which increases diseases. Along with this, human values are also disappearing. Today, farmers are running only after money and are not satisfied.
Importance of Desi Seeds in Natural Farming
In natural farming, selecting desi (indigenous), traditional open-pollinated, improved, or mixed varieties is very important.
Even today, many traditional desi seeds give:
Good quality yield
Good market price
High nutritional value
These crops provide energy to the body and reduce diseases.
From my experience, desi crops have less pest and disease attack. The concept of virus attack is almost absent.
Desi Seed Conservation and Natural Inputs
Unfortunately, conservation of old seeds is neglected. I am properly maintaining a Desi Seed Bank. I grow desi seeds seasonally and take yield.
If spraying is needed, I use:
•Neem extract
•Dashparni ark
•Agniastra
•Tamra-tak
For soil nutrition, I use:
•Jeevamrut
•Ghan Jeevamrut
•Panchgavya
•Amrut water

These desi varieties give yield equal to hybrid varieties, but their:

•Taste is excellent
•Quality is superior
After eating such food, one feels full of energy, and immunity increases. This is because their yield is consistent.
Role of Seed Companies and Government
Private seed companies bring new hybrid and research varieties every year. These varieties get approval from state and central governments, which leads to loss of biodiversity.

The government plays a major role in destroying nature because seed companies earn huge profits and give large amounts of money to the system every year.
Companies publish attractive photos and 1–2 farmers’ success stories in newspapers and magazines to attract common farmers. Some well-known foundations and institutions also promote these varieties.
They only show first-year yield, but never talk about second or third-year yield. Since these varieties lack yield stability, production decreases later. Pest and disease attacks increase.
After 1–2 seasons:
The variety disappears from the market
Company name changes
Same variety is sold with a new name and label
But the seeds remain adulterated and disease-prone.
Companies recover their money quickly, but farmers suffer, fall into debt, and finally commit suicide.
Final Message
Farmers should select desi, traditional varieties and should not get trapped by attractive advertisements of private companies.
